Kotel Quest Old City adventure game
The Old City in Kotel Quest.

What this is

The Old City, one wrong turn at a time.

Kotel Quest is a browser adventure through Jerusalem’s Old City. The route runs through shuk stalls and past strangers, takes the wrong turns on purpose, and keeps company with the street cats the whole way.

The name gives away the destination: the Kotel, the Western Wall. The game ends there—somewhere very quiet.

The playable game lives at www.kotel.quest. This page is its home in the Brand New Colors portfolio.

Behind the game

A walk that already had an ending.

Some worlds hand a game its structure. The Old City comes with narrow streets that reward getting lost, a cast that appears without being summoned, and a destination whose whole character—quiet, at the end of noise—is the opposite of everything on the way there.

The design work is mostly restraint: letting the wrong turns be the game, and letting the ending stay quiet.
